The iPhone 14 models are expected in September 2022. However, not only Apple has an influence on adhering to this schedule, the lack of chips and the corona virus also play a role. There are still several months to go, so there is still a lot that can be done in the meantime. This includes both positive and negative aspects. But one thing is certain, the completion of the iPhone 14 series will take place earlier, since mass production still has to take place afterwards. And this also takes time.
It is also due to this fact that there is gradually more and more information. For example, there should again be four models that should be named iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. If this assumption is correct, then the mini version is omitted. The topic with the processors is also interesting, because Apple also wants to go a “new” way here.
It is almost set in stone that the iPhone 14 will have the upcoming A16 chip installed. This will probably be even more powerful and energy-efficient than the A15 in the iPhone 13 models. But there should be a difference for the first time, because only the Pro versions of the iPhone 14 will probably be happy about the new A16 chip. The “normal” versions are to be equipped with the “old” A15. Sounds unfair at first glance, but makes sense from Apple’s point of view. The explanation follows in the next paragraph.
At the moment everything indicates that the US company wants the iPhone 14 to have a stronger difference between the standard versions and the two Pro versions. From this point of view, it is also understandable that only the Pro versions will receive the new A16 CPU. However, under no circumstances should you get the wrong idea, because the A15 in the iPhone 13 is currently the best smartphone processor. So there won’t be a hint of a difference between the A15 and the A16 in everyday life. Nevertheless, Apple can play the trump card that the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) has an even better CPU.
Incidentally, the whole thing would not be so new, because this “trick” is already being used on the iPhone 13. Although all iPhone 13 versions have the A15 inside, the Pro versions can look forward to an additional GPU core and more memory (6 GB RAM instead of 4 GB). There are therefore internal differences and it is quite realistic that this high-end variant will be adopted for the normal iPhone 14.
If an existing processor model is manufactured, then the challenges are significantly lower than with a new CPU model. One of many possible reasons why Apple is choosing to go this route. In addition, the shortage of chips must not be forgotten.
The hardware differentiation between “Standard” and “Pro” must also be greater because, according to current reports, there are uniform screen sizes in the room. More specifically, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are said to be 6.1 inches, and the iPhone 14 Max and iPhone 14 Pro Max are 6.7 inches. So there would only be two different sizes.
The resolution of all (tangible) speculations will then officially take place in autumn 2022.
