I’m sure you know that too: Sometimes you’re just not sure whether the job you’re doing is still the one you want to do. But should you change jobs right away? Or is it perhaps even normal to have doubts from time to time?
You could ask yourself these questions to get to the bottom of the matter:
1. Do I still see myself here in the next few years?
2. Do I have opportunities for advancement?
3. Am I paid fairly?
4. Do I find my job meaningful?
5. Can I join the company course?
6. Do I feel comfortable in my team?
7. Are my colleagues people who inspire me?
8. Am I valued?
9. Do I have the trust of my manager?
10. Am I okay with the pressure at work?
11. Am I not overwhelmed with my tasks?
12. My tasks do not challenge me?
13. Am I still motivated at work?
14. Do I complain less about work or do I usually speak well about it?
15. Am I rarely on sick leave?
16. Do I go home satisfied?
17. Can I use my talents and strengths at work?
18. Did I choose this job for the right reasons?
19. Would I recommend my job to someone else?
20. Am I happy?
You should be able to answer “yes” to most of the questions.But it’s perfectly normal if you can’t answer all the questions with yes. No job is perfect, work is not always the same and there are good days and bad days – even in your dream job.
Home office became a code for many employees during Corona Overload. Anyone who had to do childcare, home-schooling, work and relationships at the same time in a confined space was simply overwhelmed. But it also became clear those who were allowed to work from home were still privileged. Many also noticed that it can be nice to work from anywhere, to divide working hours variably and that working from home saves a lot of time. Anyone who then has an employer who does not want anything to do with flexible work – in terms of time and location – has often resigned and looked for a more modern employer.
During the pandemic, many workers found employers unwilling to provide adequate protection. Employers who sent their employees on short-time work without need, refused them home office despite high incidences, or dealt laxly with hygiene regulations have lost the trust of their employees. Where trust falls, employee loyalty also falls and the willingness to change jobs increases.
In the midst of the crisis, many began to ponder. Even before you start looking for a new job, you should ask around discreetly. Spread the word among your circle of acquaintances that you would like to reorient yourself. Go have a coffee with old colleagues or fellow students who work in interesting companies. They can tell you how things are going elsewhere.
